Nukkumatti is the Finnish name for a friendly Sandman character from Scandinavic mythology. He sprinkles magic sand in children´s eyes to make them sleep. He was also the inspiration for the Nukkumatti lamp by the celebrated Finnish designer Eero Aarnio. The lamp's unconventional shape resembles the cone-shaped hat that the Nukkumatti character is often depicted as wearing.
